Starters for Massey Ferguson Tractors & Farm Equipment

The story of Massey Ferguson begins in Newcastle, Ontario, Canada in 1847. The company was originally called Newcastle Foundry and Machine Manufactory. Using parts imported from the United States, Newcastle Foundry and Machine Manufactory built the world’s first mechanical threshers. Using what was learned with the imported U.S. parts, the company would go on to design and build their own equipment. In 1891, the company (now known as Massey-Harris Limited) was the largest agricultural machinery manufacturer throughout all of the British Empire. Massey-Harris began experimenting with steam engines and later, with petrol engines, creating the first self-propelled combine harvester. During World War II, Massey-Harris was contracted by the U.S. Military to produce tractors, tanks, and other combat vehicles for the war effort. In 1953, Massey-Harris merged with British manufacturer Ferguson-Brown and became Massey-Harris-Ferguson before shortening the name to Massey Ferguson in 1958. Massey Ferguson went on to capture a large portion of the agricultural market across Europe and also bought out many of their competitors. In 1995, Massey Ferguson was purchased by AGCO.
