Yanmar is a Japanese diesel engine manufacturer founded in Osaka, Japan in 1912, but began as a gas-engine manufacturer in 1907. In 1920, Yanmar made the switch from gasoline to diesel and, like many Japanese corporations, expanded their manufacturing lines outside of their own specialty product. Their lineup consists of include fishing boats, ship hulls, tractors, combines, harvesters, rice planting machines, mini excavators, UTVs, and heavy machinery. Yanmar created the first diesel-powered rice planting machine with a driver’s seat. The company produces engines for other brands including John Deere, a relationship that began in 1977. Today, Yanmar has many engine manufacturing plants all across the world in places such as America, Italy, the Netherlands, Thailand, China, and Indonesia in addition to their native homeland of Japan.
