Alternators for Lotus Sports Cars

Lotus is a dedicated manufacturer of high-performance sports cars based in Norfolk, England.  In 1953, Collin Chapman and Collin Dare, engineering graduates from London’s University College, founded Lotus Engineering, Ltd.  Two years later, Lotus formed Team Lotus and entered Formula 1 competition, a business decision that helped the manufacturer design and engineer purpose-built performance cars for enthusiasts by enthusiasts.  Lotus’s expert design and engineering, plus their reputation for creating lightweight, nimble driver’s cars with ideal weight distribution, made them highly sought-after in the automotive world.  After a long line of winning F1 car designs, Lotus used their racetrack knowledge and experience to create the Mark VI, the brand’s first car.  The Elan Plus Two was the first fully factory-built Lotus car and was unavailable for purchase as a kit, unlike the Mark VI and previous models.  The Eclat and Elite of the 1970s followed suit as both were also unavailable as kit cars.  The mid 1970s had Lotus seeking more affluent and well-heeled customers.  As such, comfort features such as air conditioning and automatic transmissions became available on what were otherwise stripped down performance cars with a predominate focus on performance.  The mid-engine Lotus Esprit went on to become Lotus’ most storied and longest-lasting nameplate, built between 1976 and 2005.  After collaborating with other manufacturers for engine designs or, in some cases, relying entirely on engines from outside sources, Lotus developed their own dual overhead cam inline 4-cylinder engine called the Lotus 900.  Soon, their own V8 and a series of turbocharged engines followed.  Currently, Lotus produces the Elise, Exige S, Evora, and F1-inspired T125 Exos.
