Regulator/Rectifiers for Isuzu Vehicles

Isuzu Motors of Japan is one of the world’s largest suppliers of diesel engines and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.  In 1949, the Isuzu name (named after the Isuzu River) was applied to the former Tokyo Automobile Industries Co., Ltd. which originated from a 1918 partnership with British manufacturer, Wolseley Motors Limited.  Isuzu was already building their line of commercial trucks, but wanted to start production on their own line of cars.  However, for a small company such as Isuzu was, this proved to be an overbearing and costly task.  Isuzu would partner with Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru), and then later Mitsubishi and Nissan until joining together with General Motors in 1971.  With General Motors owning 34% of Isuzu’s stake, they released the first Isuzu-built vehicle for the United States, the Chevrolet LUV.  This truck was the forefather of GM’s GMT350 platform, which underpinned the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC S-15/Sonoma.  They’d also created the GM T-body platform, from which the subcompact Chevrolet Chevette and Pontiac T1000 were built.  Isuzu also collaborated with Suzuki and Honda; the latter spawning the Isuzu Rodeo and Trooper, and stretched their global reach as a diesel engine supplier for numerous manufacturers.  The Isuzu/Suzuki/General Motors relationship also resulted in the creation of the Geo sub-brand of General Motors, a means for GM to compete against other subcompact economy cars being imported from Japan.  After declining sales and diminishing presence in the states, Isuzu withdrew from the U.S. market. Their last major contribution to regular consumers was the GMT355 truck platform shared with the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Isuzu I-Series/D-Max, and Hummer H3.
