Starters for Hummer Vehicles

Hummer began life as the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, or Humvee), a military-spec combat transport vehicle manufactured by AM General, a sub-brand of Kaiser Jeep and later, AMC. Humvees began seeing widespread field use during the Middle East Conflicts of the 1980s and 1990s and due to the persistence of action movie heavyweight Arnold Schwarzenegger, were eventually made available for civilian use. The first civilian Humvee was the M998, which brought the Hummer name to the public eye. In 1999, AM General sold the Hummer name and trademarks to General Motors, but continued to manufacture the H1 on their own. GM later designed and built two of their own Hummer models based off of pre-existing Chevrolet and GMC truck platforms, the H2 and H3. 2006 saw the end of H1 production, leaving only the GM-made H2 and H3 vehicles to carry the brand. After growing public backlash due to the trucks’ poor fuel economy and emission standards, plus the eventual 2008 auto industry crisis, GM discontinued the Hummer brand and attempted to sell it. On April 7th, 2010, GM’s Hummer brand was officially discontinued.
