OMC Alternator

OMC Marine Alternators

Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) was the original parent company to Evinrude, Johnson, and Gale Outboard Motors. OMC was founded in 1929 when ELTO (Ole Evinrude’s second major venture in outboard motors, next to the eponymous Evinrude brand) merged with the Lockwood-Ash Motor Company. The OMC name came in 1956 and the company became the world’s #1 top supplier and manufacturer of outboard motors for boats. They also were a producer of powerboats and was the second largest powerboat builder in the world. OMC experienced massive growth and expansion post-World War II as postwar prosperity saw a surge in demand of recreational craft such as boats. They began to develop new sterndrive (inboard-outboard) engines for use as separate units for boat builders or a s components for boats manufactured by OMC such as Chris Craft, Lowe Boats, Pinecraft, Stratos, Javelin, and more. In the 1990s, electronic fuel injection replaced carbureted systems and in the 1996, the direct injection system by Germany’s FICHT GmbH was introduced to comply with then-new EPA emissions guidelines. OMC, the one-time holder of a third of the world’s outboard boat engine market, had fallen bankrupt and in 2001, their Johnson and Evinrude brands were taken by Canada’s Bombardier Recreational Products.
