Starter Solenoids for AGCO Gleaner Combine Harvesters

In 1923, the Baldwin brothers out of Nickerson, KS, created a new type of premium, reliable self-propelled harvester called the “Gleaner”, named after the famous Jean-Francois Millet painting. The Gleaner combine came to be known as the “Cadillac” of the farming industry due to the machine’s reputation for superior engineering and reliability. Gleaner combines had a unique silver color due to their environmental and weather resistant zinc plating, which would later become a trademark distinguishing feature. The Baldwin brothers fell victim to the Great Depression and were bankrupt by the 1930s, but were able to rebound thanks to the efforts of new owner William James Brace, his son-in-law George Reuland, and their army of investors they had amassed. In 1955, Allis-Chalmers acquired the Gleaner Manufacturing Company and in 1985, Allis-Chalmers sold Gleaner--and all of their agricultural machine businesses--to Germany’s Deutz-Allis. Deutz-Allis named their North American operations AGCO and the Gleaner brand name lives on as a part of AGCO.
