Starter Solenoids for Oliver Farm Tractors & Plows

The Oliver Farm Equipment Company is the result of a merger of four separate companies that took place on April 1st (April Fool’s Day), 1929. The four companies were Oliver Chilled Plow Company (founded in 1855), Hart-Parr Tractor Company (1897), Nichols and Shepard Company, and the American Seeding Machine Company (both founded in 1848). By 1929, all four companies were rendered obsolete and had outgrown their usefulness to the farming and agricultural industry. Facing bankruptcy, the four companies united and formed a single unit called Oliver Farm Equipment, which allowed them to stay in business. This decision proved to be successful as the Oliver Farm Equipment Company was able to acquire four more firms: McKenzie Manufacturing Company, Ann Arbor Agricultural Machine Company, Cleveland Tractor Company, and A.B. Farquhar Company. Now under a single corporate banner, Oliver Farm Equipment Company produced a full line of products for the farming and agricultural industry. During World War II, Oliver expanded their lineup into military defense and combat vehicles. However, in November of 1960, White Motor Corporation had purchased Oliver and turned it into a subsidiary. White also purchased Cockshutt Farm Equipment and Minneapolis-Moline in 1962 and 1963, respectively. The Cockshutt and Minneapolis-Moline lines were combined with Oliver tractors to the point where the products were all virtually identical. White Motor Corporation would eventually be purchased by Volvo in 1980 and later be phased out. As a result of the Volvo purchase and subsequent brand shuffling, Fiat would be the last to use the Oliver brand name to market their own tractors.
