ATV CV Joint Boot Kits

In a typical rear-wheel drive setup, engine power is delivered to the rear drive wheels VIA a drive shaft which connects to a rear differential. The rear differential houses gears which turn the axle shafts, thus causing the drive wheel to spin. In front-wheel drive, the transmission acts as a transaxle and the drive shaft is replaced by a constant velocity joint (CV joint). All-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive, or rear-wheel drive with independent rear suspension (IRS) layouts also use CV joints in place of solid axles. This applies for cars, trucks, SUVs, as well as ATVs.

The CV joint is protected by a rubber boot which seals in lubricating grease and locks out external contaminants and water from corroding the metal linkages inside. The rubber boot is flexible, which lets the joint flex and bend as intended but the rubber is exposed and left vulnerable to environmental damage, as well as the natural degradation of the rubber itself. A bad CV joint boot will allow contaminants to damage the CV joint and a damaged CV joint can lead to excessive drivetrain vibration, increased wear, and eventual failure. That is why it’s imperative to always inspect the ATV CV joint boots for wear, aging, rubber dry rot, or any kind of physical damage that can compromise the CV joint’s life expectancy.
