Alternators for Chrysler Marine Engines

In 1927, Chrysler, famously known as one of Detroit’s “Big Three”, had decided to enter the marine market after finding success in building the famous Imperial racing boat engine. This 289 cubic inch straight 6-cylinder engine was used in the 1926 Gold Cup and Junior Gold Cup races; the latter resulted in a 2nd place spot with the Baby Frolic. After World War II, Chrysler had enough experience building military and aircraft engines and, as such, their marine engines were based off of pre-existing car and truck engines. These included the slant-6 G and RG engines, the 273 LA, 413 and 440 B V8 engines, and the monstrous 426 HEMI which made its name in NHRA and NASCAR racing. The period of post-war prosperity helped grow Chrysler’s marine division and by 1965, they had a full line of inboard and outboard boat engines, as well as powerboats and personal pleasure craft.
